Getting ready to order a well decked out 2020 F350 SRW 6.7l to replace the 2011 F250 that a storm dropped an oak tree on in Wisconsin last summer. Currently have a ~12K travel trailer, expecting to upgrade to a 5th wheel next year, probably around 12K with 2200-2400 lb pin weight. Dealer is suggesting the camper package which is stiffer front springs and a rear sway bar. I don't want springs any stiffer than needed up front, and I can easily add a sway bar in back if needed. Any thoughts?
Also, last truck had 3.31 rear end. Had to be careful pulling away from a stop with the camper or would spin the rear tires. Planning on sticking with the 3.31 again instead of the 3.55. Any comments on ratios?
This site has always been a source of great information. Thanks to all the contributors.
At least on the 2017, the camper package gave you the 3.55 axle ratio. I wanted that ratio as well as the sway bar, so adding the package was a no-brainer for me. The springs in that package are the +1. The snow plow prep has the +2 springs.
Every package you add decreases cargo capacity. With a fifth wheel you want all the cargo capacity you can get. If you get the CCLB 4x4 6.7L 2020 then you'll get the upgraded GVWR to 12,400 instead of 11,500 which helps cargo capacity a lot. You still have to adhere to the same RAWR as the 11,500 GVWR truck does, but most of the weight of the 6.7L is on the front axle, not the rear.
