I changed the oil and filter in my 2017 Expedition on 8/18/2019.
So, now the oil is 10 month old and has 3500 miles on it.
Last week it started displaying the message that it is time to change the oil!

If you didn't do the 'Oil Change Indicator Reset' procedure...
From your owner's manual:
Your vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor system, which displays a message in the information display at the proper oil change interval. This interval may be up to one year or 10000 miles (16000 kilometers). When the oil change message appears in the information display, it is time for an oil change. Make sure you perform the oil change within two weeks or 500 miles (800 kilometers) of the message appearing. Make sure you reset the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor after each oil change. See Oil Change Indicator Reset (page 246). If your information display resets prematurely or becomes inoperative, you should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5000 miles (8000 kilometers) from your last oil change. Never exceed one year or 10000 miles (16000 kilometers) between oil change intervals. Your vehicle
Do you use remote start and let the engine idle for an extended period to warm up the truck before heading out?
All good questions, but,
I hate short trips. It only goes out in winter if roads are clear and dry, for a minimum of 20 miles.
Light weight towing, about 250 miles last fall.
Very little time at idle.
Negative on the stop and go. I’m out in the country.
I have used the remote start in cold temps, but it only runs for two or three minutes before I start to drive.
Thats why I was surprised to see the oil change message.
I did have to replace the battery in December. If the oil change data is not in keep alive memory I figured it wouldn’t trip til a year had gone bye.
Did you reset the oil reminder when you changed it?
Another good question. I’m pretty sure I did.
Interestingly, the first oil change I did on this vehicle (6/11/18) it only had 5827 miles on the oil, but as it approached the 365 days in service the % oil life left began to quickly approach 0%.
Now that I think back on it, I may have reset the (bugging me) oil life monitor in June of the following Year (6/x/19) with only 6200 miles on the oil, and then changed the oil (8/18/19) with 8400 miles on the oil. At that point I may have forgot to reset the oil life monitor as it hadn’t been nagging me. So this June, the oil life monitor *thought* the oil had been in there since June of last year and started bugging me this June.

Alloro, Thanks for the refresher/reminder. I’m gonna have to add to my log book WHEN/IF I reset the oil life monitor. I typically run an UOA (Used Oil Analysis) to see how my driving style/use of each vehicle effects the oil I use. I can’t find a UOA for this vehicle so I bet I forgot to pull a sample for this vehicle.

Well you are doing something that the IOLM does not like.

The IOLM went off on my '19 Escape almost 1 year to the day of the day that I bought it although it only had 1200 miles on it. I just reset it back to zero. With stay at home orders, the car has only gone a couple of hundred miles in the last 3 months. I figure that I will change it in the Fall.
The one year deadline is a "cover-my-a**" trick by Ford and other OEMs in case the IOLM goes bonkers or fails. I am sure that there have been people who drove 20k-30k on the same oil because the light did not go off. But I am looking at a couple of new vehicles that the dealer has had on the lot for two years. I doubt seriously that the dealer will change the oil before he finally delivers the car.
