DoorHinge Rivets

DoorHinge Rivets
1948 to '52 F1. Just purchased new door hinhes, upper and lowers, and noticed the factory hinges look like they are riveted to the door ?!?!? There' s no way to get a grinder inside the door, can they be ground off on the door or use a cut off wheel without damaging the door? Then, any ideas to reaattach new hinges. Seems like bolts and nuts would provide way more adjustability than solid rivet mount. Any suggestions appreciated.

I didn't know you could get new hinges for these trucks. What is wrong with your current hinges that they need to be replaced? Personally, messing with the door side hinge would be a last resort. If the holes are sloppy, the typical fix is using an oversize pin or use bushings. It's not a place where you want bolt adjustment, either. It's not necessary. The same adjustment you'd get there is found on the cab side of the hinge. You'd gain nothing except aggravation.

Center punch in the middle of the rivet head, and starti with a center drill or small drill, then work your way up to a larger drill. You only need to drill through the head until you reach the rivet’s shank 1/4” diameter. The head might pop off if you’re centered and using >1/4” drill, or you will be able to chisel the weakened head off. Then use a punch to knock the rest of the rivet out. Use 1/4-20 pan head Phillips screws, nuts and lock washers, to reassemble.

lol, you are not, and this is exactly how you remove rivots. I have used a grinder to remove a head and then punch the shank out but that is normally on solid surfaces like the frame...…...
