Can anyone decipher the codes on the rear end tag of my 1964 F100 for me?
The tag codes are:
WBG-E2
3 70 4AC 302
I recently acquired the truck. It is very original in many ways, but it has obviously had oversize springs added to the rear and based on its get up and go, I wonder if the rear end may have something unusual in there also. I took it out for a spin last night (18 mile round trip) to go get a state safety inspection sticker and it was TOO much fun to drive. I had no idea IT was going to want to drive so FAST! I am very happy with my truck purchase!
I can tell you it has 3.70:1 gear ratio, but don't have a book for the rest of the info.3 70=3.70 ratio, if had an L between then limited slip.4AC is prob a date code. Any wrecking yard should be able to ID from the WBG-E2 number.
well, heres a bit more info on the rear end....you typed WGB, should be WBG(minor detail) no WGB exists. The E after the WBG goes with it....denotes a 3.70 ratio also, theres an F model with a 3.89 ratio. The 2 shows essentially the revision level....book says "Num. code shown when interchangability is affected"
The 3.70 is ratio...if there were an L after the 3, it means its a posi unit...
the 4AC is build date....from what I have gathered from Fords numbering code system, this is either a 3rd week in Jan unit, or a 1st week in March unit...built 1964
the 302 is the plant code...where built I assume....book doesnt list.
The above except where noted is from Master parts book 9/68
