I went to lengthen my cable on the Goosebox and used a piece of high-tensile fence wire to get some ideas. I decided I liked it and replaced my cable with it. It is stiff enough that it stays where it is easy to grasp. If it fails, I have the cable to put back on.

I'm going to order a 2021 F350 CCSB when ordering opens then next we will get a 5th wheel, so I have been researching everything related to outfit the truck with toolbox, tonneau cover and hitch. I really like the idea of the goose box with only the ball in the bed, but my concern is 5th wheel to cab clearance for turning. I was planning on getting the 5th wheel prep, but do not find an offset ball that works with the oem prep package and I think with the goosebox any offset will help with clearance, maybe not 90 degree turns but close. Also haven't found an aftermarket puck system with a different gooseball connection, only reese and I think they make fords and the hole is round, but don't see the complete puck system from anyone else. Anyone have a similar setup?

If you want an offset ball, install the B&W turnover ball, which uses a square shank on the ball, allowing for an offset.
And with the gooseneck/goosebox, there is really no need for the pucks.

Hi Scycle,
In order to use an offset ball for the Goosebox, you need a B & W Turnover Ball hitch, which has a square receiver. My 2015 F250 CCSB came with this hitch, which led me to purchase a Goosebox, and an offset ball. I haven't actually hooked it all up yet (trailer is in the shop), so I can't be of much help on how well it works, but many people on here and other forums are very pleased with the GB performance. Hope this helps.

Regards,
John

I don't think you need to worry. This is my truck with the Ford puck system and a Pullrite ball. The nose of my truck is up 3-4", so a few more degrees are available. Looks to be 80+ degrees easily, especially if the truck was level and I had a spotter.

Thanks to you both.
I thought I might have to get the gooseneck hitch, just wondered why it's not offered with the pucks, which I don't need with this system, but if I wanted to switch to a standard hitch it would help. I just wanted all the options because it seems people change their setup as new products come out or things don't work like you want them to and not having done it before I don't know.

One thing to consider with the B&W hitch, you have to disassemble the hitch to change the rear shocks.

Are you using the Pull Rite plate or just a ball in the OEM hitch?
Goosebox as well?

I have the plate, but can't use it. It won't work with a bed mat, which I have. I have a Curt ball also and use its safety chain pucks. I really like the Pullrite plate for its simplicity.

I love my Goosebox, and I have the factory hitch and pucks. Mine is a long bed so I cannot comment about cab clearance for you, but I can say that given the choice I wish I could run an offset ball even with the long bed. Reason is clearance to the tailgate is really tight with the Goosebox and factory ball. Not unsafe, but I can only barely put the tailgate down, and I need to be pretty much straight on to do so. Also I cannot open the front storage bay on the rig when hitched up. None of this is a deal breaker, but given the choice, and given that I do not need the pucks, I would go turnover ball next time so I could run the offset ball.

That is a good solution too. I used mine for the first time on Sunday and it was rather pleasant not to have the lean all the way in there to grab it.

It seems odd that none of the manufacturers of the trucks and the hitches have come up with a good option for this. I have searched all the major hitch manufacturers and I believe Reese is the only one to make a aftermarket hitch with all 5 pucks, but the gooseneck is still round. Reese makes a double lock gooseneck hitch without the other 4 pucks and sell an offset for that. If I went with the B&W, I could buy the wire harness for the box that has the 2 connectors for the ultimate tow camera and yaw sensor. I can't find any option for an offset with the goosebox.

It is still assumed in the industry that people with a need to tow goosenecks would buy a long bed truck.

Such as it is the 5th wheels, it took sometime for the industry to understand folks prefer a short bed but still want to tow a 5th wheel.

Only good option is to hook up, use a guide and see if it will work for you. If it doesn't then back to the drawing board.

Hi Scycle,
Unfortunately, no, I haven't got it back yet... Probably should have been done by now, but Covid is delaying lots of replacement part shipments to the shop. I'm really anxious to get it hooked up and tested a bit before the cold weather hits.

Regards,
John
