I am attempting to put a 1994 E4OD trans in a 1996 Bronco. I have found that Ford changed the trans connector (for the VB) in 1995. I need to convert the '96 to the old style plug. I have pinouts for the old plug, but I need them for the 1996 plug. Does anyone have a 1996 Bronco or F-Series EVTM they could get me a pic of connector C1048 from?
Thanks, subford! I knew you would have it. Looks like all the pins/circuits are the same as the 1991 diagram (for the old connector) that I have except for #12. Looks like I just need to take that off of #1 pin (361)?
Nothing changed from an electrical perspective as it relates to pin-outs. Ford changed the Circuit designation (numeric value) after 1994. Circuit 361 (Red wire) supplies power from the PCM relay. On 1994 and earlier trucks there is a splice (S136) to run the same power to pin 12 that was called out as Circuit 912 (White/Red wire). 1995 and later the splice changed to S169 and both wires running to the solenoid pack Pins 1 and 12 are Red wires.
There is no need to run a jumper from Pin 1 to Pin 12. Power is already available.
On the other hand you would be much better off to swap the 1996 solenoid pack onto the 1994 donor transmission. The connector is a much better design and Ford moved the solenoid protection diodes from the solenoid pack to the PCM in 1995. The 1994 solenoid pack will have the diodes on-board and so will the 1996 PCM. Not the end of the world to have both sets, but gaining the better external connector is a good idea.
