I have a 2004 F250 Super Duty. It works pretty well until I get up to 50-60MPH. It refuses to shift into 5th gear and runs at almost 3000RPM to go 60MPH. Also, when I get up to 45-50MPH, the tow/haul lights starts to flash. Could it be that the truck is stuck in tow/haul and won't go into overdrive? I have drive turning the tow/haul on/off but it doesn't seem that the tow/haul button works at all. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Tow/haul doesn't prevent the transmission from shifting into overdrive.
The ONLY way to fix this is to read the codes that have been stored in the computer when the tow/haul light flashed. Even if it isn't flashing the codes are still there. I think the best way to do it is Forscan, available free at forscan.org. You'll also need an ELM327 adapter to plug into the truck. I bought one from Amazon for less than $30. Or you could take it to a good independent repair shop, or a Ford dealer. The places that read codes free CANNOT read these codes.
