Question warning lights / speedometer

I have a 2000 Mazda B3000 4x4 V-6 3.0L, automatic trans. 53500 miles. My ABS warning light went on the other day. A friend told me to reset the comp by diconnecting the battery. The ABS light stayed off for 2days, and went back on and stayed on even after disconnecting the battery. The day my ABS light went on my speedometer and odometer stopped working. If I go above 55mph the speedometer/odometer starts to work. If it falls below 55mph it starts "bouncing" rapidly. If it falls lower it falls to zero and doesn't work (speedometer or odometer). My truck also has a hard time to automatically shift. It reaches 3000 + rpm before it automatically shifts, and when it does it jerks and the O/D light starts to flash. A friend said I need to change the O2 sensors. Is that true? or do I need to replace the speed sensor? if so, where is it located? or is there really a problem with my ABS? Please help, this is my only source of transportation and I do not have the funds to have it fixed professionally. What can I do myself to fix this problem? Please help. Mahalo (Thank You).

speed sensor in top of rear diff is bad dealer part $20 and a 3/8 wrench and 15 minutes will most likely fix your problem.

try links from this site or just go to the DEALER, I know it's a bad word.
$20 bucks and if you call ahead a good parts man will have the # memorized.

The part you want is a rear anti-lock brake sensor (mounted in the rear differential case). That is the sensor that controls your ABS system and also provides vehicle speed data to the PCM. Try asking for it that way, instead of calling it a "vehicle speed sensor" (which is what they are called on the earlier Rangers).

I looked up the part at RockAuto and they have one for a 2000 4x4 Ranger 3.0L which should fit your truck ($7.71).

Have faith in us when we tell you that the problems you describe have nothing at all to do with your 02 sensors, nor your transmission filter.

The rear differential case is underneath your truck, between the two rear wheels. The driveshaft is attached to it.

It is sometimes referred to as the rear "pumkin" because of the way it looks.

FWIW, the Haynes Repair Manual is a good resource for people who are relatively new to the realm of auto repair. You can find a Haynes Manual covering your Ranger in pretty much any auto parts store for about 15 bucks. I recommend it.

The motor in your Mazda B3000 is built by Ford and is the exact same motor that Ford puts in the Ranger ...it is more commonly known as the 3.0L "vulcan" engine....

I had the same problem 2 days ago, ABS light came on and didn't go off.....then noticed that when I got to highway speeds, my rpms were lower and I was getting better gas mileage, to my dismay it was only because I thought I was going 80 when I was actually going 75. Once your ABS light goes off immediately check the speed sensor. I read this thread and fixed it in 3 minutes.

Thanks FTE!!

I still love my truck, I still love my truck, I still love my truck....gotta keep sayin it.....

Disconnect the cables from your battery (negative first) for about 20 minutes, then reconnect them. This should clear the codes and reset your computer...
