I may be looking for a ghost but here it is. I'm looking for a front/rear dash cam with programmable gps, speed display that will record on a hidden remote hard drive that will work with my 79 scab or 79 bronco. I have found units but they MUST tie into the vehicles system. I want a unit that will stand alone. I do not want to record to an SD card or HAVE to use a smart phone. The unit must record direction and speed.
Am I missing something or searching using the wrong key words?
I reached out to a third party testing company"t3.com" that did an impressive reviewof many dash cams. When I laid out my parameters, they told me nothing was available that would not link to the vehicle or phone.
remote hard drive? like at your house? There is stuff out there but the cost really isn't worth it for what you want it for. Think high-end electronic surveillance/tracking equipment. I'm sure there is an app for that. Still have to have a laptop or Smartphone Im sure, which is why the cheaper ones use USB, SD cards or save data to your phone via the blacktooth grin. There are some that tie into the OBD2 systems to provide engine data as well but still will only record to USB, SD or smartphone.
Where I'm at in Wyoming, cell/internet is sketchy. I have a 500gb external hard drive to record to and will work in the truck. So that part is taken care of.
When I go into town I want to record continuously. I just do not want it to tie into wifi, internet, smartphone. I use a flip phone. Obviously, 79 trucks do not have obd2 to plug into, so those would be out.
I have a GARMIN GPS with a built in dash recorder. Its cool. Lets you know if you go over the yellow line too.
I have the same, love it.
The lane departure does get annoying, I disabled it. I live where there are a lot of narrow, winding country roads.
Here's a link to what it recorded the day after my birthday in 2018 (P.S. I walked away with just a couple of scratches from the glass). https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...went-to-s.html
I won't have a vehicle without a dashcam any more.
I had truck recorders in my work trucks. There were two cameras, were GPS enabled, and had a hard drive. They were about $1500 a piece. They also did not tie into the OBD system, but were a stand alone system. I will try and figure out who manufactured them tomorrow.

AZ scooter... That would nice if not to much trouble. Thank you.

These are pictures. This was all that there was for markings, so it is a mini3 of undetermined manufacture. These are a little different because they are cell enabled. Let’s me sit at my desk and watch guys work. It can handle four or five cameras, which is probably way more than you need. Good luck.
