When I was looking for a tonneau cover for my '65 way back when, I found none that were made for any truck prior to '73. Some places offered custom made ones for triple the price but I'm cheap and that wasn't an option. So, I spent a day at the pick and pull and compared sizes throughout the years. All were the same right up to the early 80s. That being said, I can't specifically say that the tailgate profiles matched. However, since many people use later tailgates on our year trucks, I'd say they're the same. After all, the profile does line up with the tail light extensions. Here's a '73 tailgate. Compare it to yours. Looks pretty darn close to me.
How do you plan to hold it on? Hard to see from the pictures but do you have a bed mat and/or spray in type liner? I plan on using my truck and I'm still undecided on what to do with the bed. I've had Ford drop in, under rail bed liners in my new trucks since 1992, floor mats before that, and nothing before that. I really liked my drop in liners but since that's not an option I need to decide what I want to.
4 self taper screws should do it. I don't haul dirt and the such. Only dogs and tools, so commercial throw rugs fill the bill. I think I'm going to paint it Wimbeldon white for the 20-20 effect so it won't stand out.
I also just received mine, from the place Christmas linked to. A perfect fit. Since these are old stock, I’d grab one while you have the chance. Seller has 9 left now. The first one came bent, but the, seller, without any hassles, replaced it , even expediting the shipping. Thanks to Christmas for posting these up.
