Remote Start Only!
It has suffered from random starting issues usually resolved by a tow and new starter. That always irked me and didn’t seem right.
I started to suspect an ignition system issue after my last new starter about a month ago. I would have done a thorough diagnostic before calling for a tow but it was right in the parking lot of a customer and I really couldn’t work on it there.
I wanted a 6.7 starter update so I said ok to a new starter. Since then, I replaced the ignition switch on the steering column yesterday and now have a no crank no start condition. I got another switch and have the same thing.
What’s odd is, it does start when I use the remote start.
Now, While I was under the dash I saw what I suspect is a 2nd rate alarm install so I can’t help but want to suspect it but first things first: I need to determine what steps do I need to take to get it starting with the key again and then what do I need to do to sort out the wire leads to prevent random nonstart issues?
Mine was stuck in alarm mode your issue might be diffrent that or faulty wire depending on hack job
You can always use the yellow. Wire.trick To see if starter spins instead of changing it make sure it not in gear during attempt

If the system is wired screwy it can cause the alarm to immobilize the vehicle as well. Also, pull the codes using Forscan and see if you have any associated with the alarm. A regular OBDII scanner will not pick up these codes.

As for an update, I thought I'd use Forscan to reprogram my two keys and that didn't work. Ended up erasing the 'key in the box' so the remote start doesn't work any longer and I still have a no crank, no start condition with my two keys.
Current codes:
PATS: Code:
B2141 - No PCM ID
Code: B1213 - At some time since last clear the ignition has been switched on with less than 2 keys stored.
IC:
Code: B1352 - Ignition key in circuit fault
Code: U1262 - SCP Data Link Fault
Wife Module:
Code: WTF! - We've spent too much already on this damned truck and that engine isn't even here yet and you know that there will be something else...
I found the "Key in the Box". It has a lead that goes up to the ignition cylinder. The key is an uncut key. In order to program it, I had the key cut.
I'm having trouble programming the keys though. My truck doesn't allow one to just program additional keys, I have to erase all the keys and reprogram them all. For some reason, I have only 1 or 2 of the 3 keys programmed. I am assuming I'm taking too long for the reaming keys so I'll retry today. It got too late last night and as I live near the water and the mayflies are out, I wanted to avoid getting swarmed with the draw of the Excursion dome lights : D
Saying that, I am still unable to start the vehicle with the two keys I have programmed.
I'll provide the current codes when I get the chance. In the meantime I have some basic questions:
Questions:
The THEFT light flashes quickly when an unrecognized key is entered, correct?
Does an immobilized engine crank or does turning the key do nothing in terms of the starter?
How does one reset an immobilized engine?
