I recently installed a Tarheel antenna and HF radio in my jeep and I love it. I am considering adding an HF radio in my truck. I have a Yaesu FT710 that I want to use and Im thinking it would fit in this area in the console. The width fits, not sure about the depth of the radio. Anyone done something like this? Figured Id ask before I take the console apart to try.
I ran a cable from the upfitter wiring on the drivers side, through a firewall grommet and under the carpet.
wanted a clean look so I mounted the display in the sunglasses holder. Never use it so wasn’t worried about cutting it. Didn’t need to cut it but made it easier to use the dials.
mic sits perfectly in the slot on the side of the console.
Got a little creative with the antenna. Happy with the outcome
What bracket is that? How do you unlatch the plastic cowling? I just looked at my 2024 & it looks to be the same configuration under there. I like the symmetry with the stock antenna. May try to replicate that or @Mike_in_STL's setup.
Ideally I'd probably go for the Bulletproof 3rd brake light mount or mounting it to the headache rack, but I had about 1/8" clearance to get it into the garage before I put the flatbed on last week. Haven't re-tested to see if it still fits yet. Not sure if the headache rack is taller than the 2 plastic nubs or not. Even if it doesn't go in the garage often I'd still like the option. Amusingly I have to pull of the OEM radio antenna to not drag it along the back of the garage door.
