I see many are mounting their base units under or behind the seat. Can you hear the speaker from there are are you adding an external speaker? I'm about to replace the FTM-100 in my shack with something else and decided to put the 100 in my truck.

I put an external speaker under the drivers seat. I could hear the built in speaker from behind the rear seat, but you can also hear just as loud outside the truck, there is a vent of some sort back there and the sound exits the cab quite well!

Just put an FTM-400 under my drivers seat and is plenty loud enough even with the air on high.

Good to know. I just looked at the power cabling on my 100 and the harness looks entirely too short to go from the battery to the driver's seat.
I'm still debating on where to put the display too. I tend to stay on my club's repeater but the channel up/down on the mic is a handy feature.

I ran a cable from the upfitter wiring on the drivers side, through a firewall grommet and under the carpet.
wanted a clean look so I mounted the display in the sunglasses holder. Never use it so wasn’t worried about cutting it. Didn’t need to cut it but made it easier to use the dials.
mic sits perfectly in the slot on the side of the console.
Got a little creative with the antenna. Happy with the outcome

I have the fender mount Mike in STL has and just ordered a Larsen NMO2/70 for it. I don't have the upfitter switches so power probably has to come from the battery. I think I'll try a Lido gooseneck mount for the head. I'm not left handed so that location probably won't work for me...lol! Mike, what speaker is that? W0AZZ

That is an old Nokia HFS-12. Amazing little speaker. I got it as a part of a collection of stuff from a friend of a friend who had passed away. The audio is very clear, and even for it's size, there is enough bass response that the sound isn't tinny. It beat out a Uniden speaker of similar size as the Uniden speaker had a reverb/tinny sound profile.
I'm thinking of retiring the old Kenwood and getting an Icom ID-4100A. The display on the Kenwood is getting really tired even after I re lamped it.
The fender antenna mount scares me a bit, depending on what your running, some frequencies can be bad for your eyes when your right there level with the antenna in your face over time.
Last year I was going to install my FTM-400 in my '17 F-350 6.2 xl. Life got in the way. Now I'm on for this spring and have a question. I intend to get the power under the hood and go thru the large grommet on the drivers side. To avoid potential problems with the battery monitoring system I want to get the +12v from the fuse box. There is a spare bolt/lug there and the second bolt has no nut but the screw is identical to the point where +12v enter the fuse box. Does anyone know what thread the screw is so that I can buy the right nut? Since my guess is that it is between 6-32 and 8-32 I'm guessing it is metric.
I must be a bit old school. The box I have is the old 10 meter from Cobra. 200 XTL DX with night watch.
For mine I just hung it off the side of the center console in my '17, Then did the antenna from the right front stake pocket in the bed. Still works with my bed cover also. Will get a better photo once I get out of work, but this radio is the same one I have run for 15 ish years now.
Pretty simple setup on my end. Yaesu FTM-100, Diamond NMO lip mount, Diamond 34" dual band antenna.
The previous Diamond antenna I had was only 1/4 wave and it had absolutely no whip/give. I brushed that antenna up against so many trees on 4x4 roads in Colorado and west Texas, it ain't funny. I could only repair and resolder so much before the antenna just didn't want to antenna anymore.
For this setup, the radio body is stuffed under the driver seat. The faceplate is velcro taped to the dash. The mic is magnetically attached to the vent via a RokForm magnet phone mount. I didn't like my phone being in the way of the vent, so I stopped attaching the phone to it. The little magnet makes for a perfect mic clip.
