I'm really missing the slip-on/off tailgate feature that I've had on pretty much EVERY other truck I've ever had. Is there an aftermarket oval hinge peg that can be put on my 1977 F-250 that, in conjunction with a little delicate grinder work on the bottom of the tailgate, would result in an easy-to-remove tailgate? I need to take it off to haul my slide-in camper and every time I have to unbolt the hinge brackets, I run the risk of scraping up my paint.
No aftermarket available that I have ever seen, I have seen id not by a couple of FTE members over the years. Advanced search is the way to find the thread on it. Pics from of Bullitt390.
That plastic insert looks like the one in my 99 Dodge 2500 tailgate.
I like it as it is, my '77 K10 I have a perfect tailgate with an $800 NOS trim panel and someone could steal it in about 20 seconds. I live in a small town with almost no crime and it still makes me nervous, if I lived in a bigger town I'd fix it to be like the Ford. but if you're not worried about this I can see how you might want to alter it they are a PITA, the slot idea makes the most sense that's how other brands did it and it's possible you could use modified chevy or dodge hinge bracket.
Ooooohhh... Nice truck! Now you're just making me jealous.
I rarely liked greens back then, but this particular shade (I forget what Ford called it), whether single or 2-tone was always one of my favorite colors.
And some cool vintage ("vintage" as in '90's) aluminum wheels too. Are those the Alcoas, or Prime, or one of the others?
Ford used slotted removal hinges on their trucks, starting sometime in the 1980-1996 run. I have a set I pulled off of a 1994 Ford box for use on my 70s truck in the future.

That's a neat idea. However I kind of like them being difficult to remove, as it hinders potential thieves.
