Hate computers

How much trouble am I going to have getting rid of all the electronic crap on my 92 F-150 with an AOD transmission . I don't have the tools or patience to work on all of that . It has a 5.0 in it now .I'd like to just get rid of all the electronics except for an electronic ignition .

You would need an intake and carb. Are you aquainted with carburetors? You must select one compatible with the TV linkage/cable for your AOD, and adjust it accordingly. I'm not sure what else electronically you'll run into, as the ignition is part of the deal.

This isn't an engine swap so I am moving you over the the SBF forum where this question is asked and answered all the time.

It's going to be a big job!

Along with replacing the whole induction system with a carb and intake you have to rebuild the fuel delivery system for carb duty, replace the distributor with either a points, duraspark, or aftermarket version and wire in any other needed components like an ignition control box, rewire the dash gauges to work with the stripped down motor, and install and calibrate a carb version of the AOD TV cable.

What is going on with the truck now that you can't seem to figure out? Unless the wiring in the truck has been chewed to bits by rodents it's likely to be a lot easier and quicker to fix what you got. A code reader for this thing is dirt cheap and will go a long way towards keeping your sanity along with whatever help you can find here.

Actually the gauges are the least of his worries. They will work as is with the factory sensors. The ignition can be as simple as using a points distributor with a Pertronix unit, that just needs a hot wire to run it. I did all this with an 89 Ranger. The fuel system is another story, he'll either need to step down the fuel pressure regulator or fab up a new system using an inframe low pressure fuel pump to feed the carb. The hot wire supplying it will also need to be run as the in-tank pump is run through the computer.

Nothing wrong with per say I just don't have the patience to do the electrical stuff with all the air flow sensors and throttle sensors and all the other ors . Just give me a carburetor , an electronic ignition and I'm good to go .

So I can use an old school electronic ignition and an electric fuel pump with a manual toggle switch bolted to the frame rail and the only other thing I have to figure out is the cable for the O.D transmission ? And an old school manifold ?

Just buy a '67 and put a Pertronix or Accel module in the distributor to replace the points and condensor. Done! Go for a beer.

Yes. But I would supply the power for the electric pump off a key'd switch source and route it through the impact switch. This way the power will be cut if you have a wreck. In my Ranger, I left the EFI wiring in place but moved out of the way in case I decided to go back and use it. I cut power to the computer too by removing the fuse to it
