AOD /Edelbrock Question

Is anyone using an Edelbrock carb and an AOD combination? I understand this requires a special cable from lokar, is this correct and how has it worked for you? Thanks

Hi

I am using a eldelbrock 600cfm with a 87 t'bird AOD and the lokar TV cable ( I think thats what it's called). I had to add an additional spring from the trans to the lever to get the correct pressure reading. I have only sneaked around the neighborhood (no License plates) but so far it shifts just fine.

I installed the exact set up you describe. The one thing to remember is that the AOD's well being is completely dependent on the TV linkage. A wrong adjustment or a slip in the TV linkage adjustment will literately burn up your trans. I learned the hard way, but it was my fault, not the linkage.

I've installed the LOKAR TV cable on my '85 AOD also (in my '53 F100 w/ a 302), but I am using a Holley carb. Could you guys summarize the process you used for adjusting the TV cable. I think mine is good but until I start everything up and put a pressure guage on it I won't know for sure. Has anybody learned of a simple step by step for doing the adjusting? Thanx....

Here are two places that describe different methods (one very precise, the other generic):

http://www.tciauto.com/instructions/431000_inst.htm

I can attest to the need to get it right, also. When these are set up right they are a great trans, but there are plenty of problems with the TV cables. The early models with a linkage were POS and I would not mess with them at all, convert to cable. See also:

I had the same experience as merc546. The pressure was too high without the additional spring to pull the lever all the way back. I would suggest anyone doing this swap to have a gauge to set it up.
