Brake light switch?

Finally have the 66 back on the ground with disc brakes

For those of you who have done this upgrade, what parts have you used to get the brake lights working? The factory setup only had a pressure switch on the master cylinder...

I took the brake switch off a '74, drilled a hole and keyway in the brake pedal bracket and wired the switch in. Any momentary switch would work as long as you can find a way to mount it to you brake pedal so that the brake pedal arm actuates the switch. In my case, when the pedal is depressed, the plunger on the switch moves outward, closing the contact and providing 12 volts to the brake light circuit. There would be a number of ways to do this and some providers of restoration supplies make kits to change from hydraulic to mechanical switches.

Thanks for the input and offer. Truck still has a ways to go before getting on the road. PO things to fix:

- cut steering column
- rear diff not secured
- electrical is a disaster
- driveshaft has 2 sliding yokes, so the carrier bearing walks out of the support

Where could I find a bracket for the switch, or do you just make one?

Harley:
I'll try to get a photo later...but John's set up is certainly easier with the bracket bolted to the brake pedal bracket. Mine is mounted on top of the pedal bracket, but I had the bracket out of the truck which made drilling the hole in the right spot pretty easy.

I used a Ford brake switch from a later model. Ford used these switches for decades.
They mount around the pushrod, and actuate when the pedal is pressed.
Simple, no mounting bracket necessary, and any parts store everywhere, including every Ford dealer, has them in stock.

I made some small brackets and used a Standard SLS66 switch on my ‘63.

That switch is a major PITA to install up under the dash where it needs to go.
