Oh that was the intake plenum I was looking at? Duh. I thought he had some kind of special plate covering the bottom of the valley.

Update for everyone.

It was the oil hose going to the oil rail. The guy I brought it to found it and simply tightened the fitting. I'm still getting the occasional drip after it was clear under the chassis for a good 700 miles so my guess is that since it came loose the first time, it came loose again.

That said, I know where it is and I'm figuring that since the guy never actually cleaned it before tightening, there was still oil on the threads to break it loose again.

I'll be going in and cleaning all the threads and re-tightening again soon. Until then she's working fine with a few drips here and there.

Of course, it COULD be risidual oil but I'm guessing not. My levels haven't gone down any discernable amount so I could be chasing oil ghosts, and everything is in fact fine, but I'm still going to clean and resecure the fitting anyway. I may also change out the hoses anyway, since the HPOP is the next thing to leak, more than likely. Might as well fix up those two fittings while I'm there.

Thank you all for all your help! Now I just need to figure out what oil pipes to get.

I’d go with something like this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/112982000862
The factory connection is a “quick connect” style and I had to rebuild the fittings on Dads truck when we did the hoses. The style in the link replaces the quick connects with JIC fittings. Similar versions are available through riffraff and CNCFab as well.

It’s also possible you just need to replace the oring on the fitting if all that was done was tightening.

Does the residue smell like fuel or oil? Start there

When the o-rings fail, it leaves the fitting ‘loose’.

Youll need to replace the o-ring as a minimum. Everyone who owns one of these trucks should have this kit in the toolbox/glovebox. It has these o-rings and basically every other o-ring and seal that commonly leaks. Costs less than a tow bill. I’ve helped several people who were ‘broke down’ while traveling with parts from this kit over the years as well as a couple of self-rescues in the +350k Miles I’ve put on my dually.

I didn’t follow the fleabay link above, but I encourage you to support Riffraff Diesel because they have been good to us here at FTE for many, many years now and you can expect the best quality parts and customer service from them. This new product is the best option currently available for this repair.
