Viper remote start issues

I have had the system in my 05 F250 with the 5.4 for about 6 years and about a year ago I started getting a misfire issue on one or two coils, now it reads as all of them are misfiring. This is a viper 5904 system. If I start the truck with the key it runs fine, but if I use the RS it runs like crap until I shut it off and start it normally.

thinking about just dumping the viper system and getting something newer. Any ideas?

IMHO, I would avoid such devices as you are literally handing an electronic key over to anyone who wants to take it......and they can even take control of your truck during operation, bringing it to a complete stop, unlock the doors, etc...….. and yes, this is not just a situation that happens in the "big cities", nasty people like to travel to rural America as well and take things...

The minute you go with any type of wireless connection, you have just unlocked the door and the only limitation is your transmitter...… which is a few feet, unlike the "nasty-child" who once they ID the RFI for your vehicle, they can own it from any location

1. Viper systems use rolling code, and have for quite sometime.
2. They don't "loose a key" anymore, it's all done through electronics now which doesn't bypass any security features. Essentially the bypass module is another key for the system. I had a 99 ford, and used a module and not a key for bypass.
3. If your remote start is having issues more than likely it's one of the relays has lost power or has a blown fuse. Your probably not getting power on an ignition or accessory wire if the vehicle works fine with the key still.
Couple things you can do, if you have a warranty for install from who ever did it, take it back and have them warranty repair your install, or warranty replace your remote starter.
If you did it yourself or not at a shop and have 12V knowledge, you can troubleshoot your system.

Heavy Gauge wires from the remote start: Pink (Ignition), Orange (accessory), Pink/White (select-able 2nd accessory/ignition) should be your main ignition wires. I have a 99 and I know on mine I needed 1 ignition and 2 accessories, I'd have to look up your year/model to get specifics, but that's where I'd start.

csvt_2004 Thanks! I'll check it out this weekend. If it doesn't pan out, I'm half tempted to just have the Viper system ripped out and something newer and non-viper put in it's place. The remote needs to be replaced and I can't see almost $150 for a replacement.....

Also I've emailed and called them multiple times (even before the virus started) and they will not answer me at all.....

Thanks for the help!

I mean, Viper is a directed brand, so if you're replacing it with Autostart, Clifford, AstroStart, Automate, Python, or Avital, you're buying from the same parent company. I did Car Audio install for about 5 years in a shop that was exclusively Viper and Avital. Used to be MECP Basic certified and was some what working on MECP Advanced. Did a lot of remote start seasons (which I don't miss).
In all that time I think I only replaced one remote start brain that failed under warranty. A majority of it comes down to installer experience/quality. Shops that are just banging out installs usually don't have great quality but the same can be said about quality shops too. Sometimes you don't always have the most experienced installer or the best installer. Each installer is going to do things a little bit there way. The way I do it will not be how others will do it, but there is a reason for the way I do things that I feel makes them the correct way. These ways usually take longer, but in the end I think I have an install I can take pride in and appreciate. I just did a Viper system in my 99 F-250.

For your system, I would check the fuses for these 3 connections off the remote start brain, you should be able to meter the brain side for 12VDC+. If you are not getting 12VDC+ on the brain side you have a blown fuse or bad connection. My guess would be H3/9, but check them all.

You'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure IGN2 is actually ACC2 and DK Blue/Lt Green is ACC3. I know on my 99 I had 1 IGN and 3 ACC and 3rd ACC was not needed as all it powers is wipers and radio and I don't need either running when I'm not in the vehicle...
So an alternate test method would be to put multimeters on IGN1, IGN2, and ACC1 and verify all are getting voltage during remote start. Technically IGN2 & ACC1 should drop during crank as they are more than likely both ACC wires. IGN1 should hold voltage during crank.
Test and verify.

I'll give it a shot this weekend. I need to get a new remote for this system since mine the battery only lasts about two weeks now. And of course the one they list is the one I have and it's over $150....... If I have to I'll go back to a standard one way remote, I don't need all of the extra mess this one comes with.

Whats the model number on the back of the remote?

Also, I know that pain, I used to have a 491XL or something like that, was the old style 2 way systems that didn't have the high current relays built in yet. I used a lot of AAA batteries for that remote.

7752V is the two way remote with the rechargeable battery. The one time they did answer a question for me was actually on a replacement remote....only to tell me that none of their other remotes except the one way (backup) and the 7752V are the only two compatable with my 5901 System. I found out mine is actually a 5904 or 5704 system.....

I was hoping I might have something laying around, but I don't. I mean if you look hard enough, you can find a replacement two way for about $100. I'm not sure what the replacement warranty on remotes is anymore.

Couple things you can try maybe?
