We got towed in a very nice 63- 64ish F750 332 Y engine no rust straight 9yd dump.
Its stuck in two gears-OK. The book says New Process 5sp (535 I think) no way
can we get the top cover off, we twisted turned only can lift it 3 inches. I don't think
removing the trans. will help, you still have to remove the top its a aluminum one piece cover with shift. The shift forks just will not slide out so we can reset to neutral. Usually caused by speed shifting. Also I find odd this should have a Clark 5sp in it. So whats the trick???? sam
Push down on the metal ring on top of the shift tower and turn it counter clockwise, that should release the shifter so one can use a screw drive or small pry bar to move the shift gates back to neutral, best to jack one rear wheel off the ground to release any binding pressure.
The whole top should come off but most have a locking ring or 4-6 bolts holding the shifter onto the top, for popping it out of gear that's all I remove, only time I pull the is if the trans has to come apart.
No up date: my father always said "it didn't grow in there" well this did. Try'd channal
lock pliers to get that shift lever ring 'push down turn left like a horn button 'nope' next
i'll try a big 2 inch socket slide down the shift lever tap on socket; problem is, I need
another set off hands. With all my books, it comes down to New Process 545 5 speed.
direct. Books say take bolts out lift cover off Yea right????

No 302/332 Lincoln derived Y blocks after 1963.
TRANS code stamped on the 2nd line of the Warranty Plate, riveted to the left door face (1963) or riveted on the inside the glove box door (1961/62).
On the 2nd line, the last code is for the AXLE, TRANS code precedes it. Trans could be a Spicer, Clark or New Process.
NP 4 and 5 speeds: The stamped steel shift lever retainer cap (B8T-7220-D) has two notches, it's retained to the shift tower with two pins.
To remove this spring loaded cap, it must be pressed down by hand and held down while turning it counterclockwise to remove it.
People that are unaware use pliers or channel locks to remove it, which tears out one or both of the notches. Not pleasant!
