Not a lot of info on the internet about this issue. Looks like it could be a few problems. So the code itself is a “rear airbag circuit open”. Being a single cab I didn’t think I had rear airbags. Maybe side airbags? Any one know the location of “rear airbag sensor” in the single cab? Also it could be the airbag control module itself but doesn’t seem likely. Anyone have any input I’m all ears. I am attaching the module wiring diagram as well.
I
The correct definition for Airbag Code 24: Rear Airbag Sensor and Bracket Output Feed/Return Circuit open.
You are correct there is no rear airbag, the code is saying the sensor is bad. It's the device in the upper right of the first diagram. The lower diagram shows it labeled as Safing Sensor. It's located on the right hand frame rail near the passenger side b-pillar.
Found it and removed it. Now to try and Find the part. New code 51 which looks like it’s gonna be a fuse blown inside the airbag control module. Took that I don’t and the circuit board looks completely fried any suggestions?
The blown thermal fuse, which instigates the code51 was located in the black and white enclosure that the smoke has leaked out of. The 15 ohm resistor is also in there. I just changed that fuse in mine yesterday, successfully. It can be done, the thermal fuses are cheap, but the cause of the issue must be found or it will continue to blow. Your board does seem to have more scorch marks than normal. There is a couple of threads on the forum regarding replacing the thermal fuse.
Could the rear airbag sensor have caused the thermal fuse to blow? Since the first code was 24 that’s kinda the area I’ve been concentrated on
Yes the rear airbag sensor could cause the thermal fuse to open up. So could a short to ground in the wiring to the sensor. The fuse output voltage goes to the White/Orange wire (Circuit 611) .
I got impatient waiting on parts to come in to fix my airbag control module. So I went to the scrap yard and bought one for $50. Went home and plugged it in and it works perfectly. After doing some digging I concluded that the code 24 I was having probably just showed up due to the thermal fuse blowing (ford said this can happen). I attached my rear airbag sensor back and checked the pins with a voltmeter in ohms. I had a good connection and no open circuit like the code 24 had suggested. So I put the new airbag module in and plugged everything back together. No more airbag codes and no more 5 beeps 5 times every 30 minutes or every time the truck was cut off. The problem is solved. Thanks for everyone’s help on this.
