Checking for limited slip
So according to the sticker in my door, I have a 3.55 open diff but there are two tags on the pumpkin that are illegible. My pinion seal is leaking some and will be fixing that this week when I'm off and will change the diff fluid while I'm at it. When I topped it off this week after discovering it was low, it start to feel like the rear end was locking up as if I had an auto locker. Is there a way to visually see if the original owner had one installed once I open the cover? It took one and a half bottles to top it off but the oil is being slung to the underside of the bed and gas tank so I'm super glad I had a wild thought to check it. Otherwise it might have gone on too long before being discovered. The flange and u-joints have a wet look to them so I suspect that the oil is going along the yoke before being slung around the underside. Thanks in advance.

You don't have to remove the cover to check for a locking unit. Just safely raise the rear off the ground, put gear shift in neutral and turn one wheel by hand. If they both rotate in same direction it's a locking diff.; if they rotate opposite it's open.

Guess I'll test that when I change the pinion seal! I'll still be opening the differential to check for any damaged components and to change the fluid but I never heard any noises coming from the rear end so that's promising. I was just shocked how low it got and O'Reilly's only had their masterpro brand so I'll be replacing it with a known brand for piece of mind.
