I've just noticed this issue in the last couple of days. When I am at very low speeds, pretty much crawling along in traffic and I am turning the wheel I got a strong lateral jerk from the truck. It feels like it is somewhere in the rear. After the jerk happens, the truck will continue to roll along smoothly, then another jerk will happen. It almost feels like its happening in a specific spot as the drive shaft turns.
The jerk never happens if I am not turning. I've done some research and it seems that changing the diff. fluid is a good first step. Has anyone ever encountered anything like this before and has some advice on some things I could check?
My truck is 2wd dually with a 4.10 rear end. Not sure if it is posi or not.
You should have limited slip on your Dana-80 rear end. Your clutches may be going bad. I would change the fluid and add the friction additive. Look on the tag and it should tell you if it is LS or not.
Ill check the rear-end tonight. When I bought the truck back in April it needed a new pinion seal. The dealership I bought the truck from replaced the seal and filled up the diff. but I don't know if they added any friction additive. Probably best to just replace it all to be sure. Good excuse for a new diff. cover
If I do have bad clutches what am I looking at to get them repaired?

If they changed the fluid, I would just get the additive and add 2 oz, then drive it to see if it stops. If it still does it, add 2 more oz.
Do you still have the paperwork from when the fluid was changed? It might tell you what fluid was used. I'd try just adding some of the FM, 2 oz. at a time as others suggested. It's ~$7 for 8oz. and pretty cheap fix. Hope that's all it is.
I still have the paperwork. I'll check it when I get home. But I'm willing to bet they didn't add any friction modifier. Hopefully adding some will fix my problem.
