Hey y’all I just bought a 99 F250 with a 5.4 while pulling the trans to replace the torque converter and flywheel I noticed the passenger manifold looked “new” once I looked at it more I realized the was only 4 bolts in it of the missing 4 two of them look “drilled out” and almost smooth inside I was wondering if that’s the case what can I do to fix it
also I have headers for an 06 3v 5.4 since I have to remove the manifold would the 06 3v headers fit and work on a 99 2v ?
I appreciate any and all inputs and help thanks

Reason: Misprint
Its not uncommon for the manifolds to crack on these engines requiring replacement. That in and of itself is not too bad, but the manifold studs and bolts rust out and can break when doing the repair. Often, the fix for the studs if to drill them out. If the previous owner replaced the manifold, it could be that they messed up drilling the studs leaving you with a manifold just hanging there by 4 bolts. I also recommend pulling off the manifold and seeing what is going on.
If you have the other "headers" or exhaust manifolds for a 2006 just hold them up and see if they are similar. you may notice they look entirely different.
so the 4 missing studs coming from the head and also no nuts holding down the exhaust manifold and there is no exhaust leak that is a bit odd but not impossible it still must have some clamping force holding it against the gasket. It sounds to me like Juneaudave said about a preious owner just leaving the snapped off studs in the head and using what they could to quickly put it back together.
is there anyway you can stick a straight pick in each missing hole and see the depth of all the remaining holes or even seeing down in them with a flashlight or record or take a picture in a phone?
I had good luck with a screw extractor set called Speed Out Pro with all of the snapped of studs on my 2008 F250 except for one i had to drill entirely out i used a right angle Milwaukee M12 drill because its so cramped in there.
If yours are completely drilled out and "ruined" just use the next size up stud M10 i believe and drill and tap the new threads.
The ones that are not broke flush are about 1/2”-5/8” deep everyone of my mechanic friends and family are saying to just replace the head if I go that route is it worth it to put a mild cam with upgraded valve springs I’ll be using MSD spark plugs/coil packs intake and running 93 it’ll be a dd/work truck occasionally pulling my work trailer
Replacing the heads on these engines is quite a task - look at a manual and decide for yourself. For the broken studs try the candle wax method (i.e., apply heat and the wax will be drawn in around the threads) to remove. For where the studs have been removed , as previously noted, tap to a larger size.
