I'm getting ready to drop my fuel tank to put on a new fuel pickup foot. Truck runs out of fuel at about 80 to 100 miles left. I need to know what all I will need gasket wise when I put it back together. I wanna make sure u have everything on hand, I cant afford it to sit, as it's my daily driver. I have the pickup foot and the 2 strainer style filters. Do I need a new gasket or something for the tank?
The majority of the time people have reused the gasket at the top of the tank. I think they sell for $12-15, maybe plus shipping.
I've had tanks apart 3-4 times. When you put it back together, you may have to heat up the ring a little to get it expanded to put back on easily. I've done that with boiling water or a microwave, just not long, I also grease the cap with petroleum jelly so there is not as much friction. Mark the cap and tank before taking it apart so on reinstall you have it tightened the same. You might want to consider using fuel rated tubing to replace the balance tube connections, it just makes it an easier install and some people have had the metal tube on the rail rust out.
I have has zero luck with tanks that other people have reused the seal ring on. They are only about $10 last time I looked.
The tool for doing the install is about $35 on Ebay. The ring goes on at 60 Ft/Lb cold with the tool.
A dull flat bladed screwdriver worked fine on mine both times I had the sending unit out and I reused the gasket. It’s got notches so the sending unit stays clocked while tightening.

Could you post a pic of the "2 strainer style filters"? The 6.0L doesn't have any strainers in the fuel "pickup" system, now the 7.3L is a different story.
By indexing the cap with a marker you retighten to the torque spec.
When I did the Superdutys I did the mark and used a piece of 1x2 to impact the cap tabs and walk it on, working my way around the ring. When I’ve worked on the LS twin pumps, I made a tool out of some 8020 to wrench it on, but also marking the cap and reusing the rings. Either way will work, I saw no difference. For the $12-15 dollars and not wanting to have an issue, I’d get the gasket.
Mark made a good point, it’s the 7.3 that has the screens in the thermal recirculating assembly. I just took what you said as the primary and secondary filters.

well heck, I assumed they had the same filters in the pump. Oh well. If anyone needs can use them shoot me a message and I'll ship to you since I wont be needing them.
