At some point I very well might. I went with the 9000's on my '18 and was happy. When I was looking for the '19, that web site had the 9000's marked way down so I couldn't resist! I was coming off of an insurance claim from the truck being wrecked so I was on a budget and couldn't deal with the stock shocks any longer. Maybe when I grow up I'll swap out to Fox or King but, for my mild, road going/light towing use, the Rancho's fit the bill.
I have had 3 sets of bilstien's and all 3 sets had problems. One set always leaked one cold out, and the shaft pulled out of the lower mount, and the other 2 were removed because they leaked as well. I was told that leaking was normal by bilstien. Rancho, or Fox has my vote now.
While I have the Rancho shocks on my F-350, I used the Bilstein shocks on my Nissan Titan for a while. They were, without question, the best bang for the buck for that truck. They performed almost as well as a set of performance Sway-A-Way shocks that easily cost three times as much. Had Bilstein had a full set of shocks available for my F-350 at the time, I probably would have gone that route.
That said, I'm pleased with the adjustability of the Rancho 9000XL shocks. I have zero desire to own a "rebuildable" shock ever again. The rear SAW shocks were rebuilt twice at considerable cost. Should the Rancho shocks fail, they get replaced under warranty.
I went with Fox for the 19 and still run Bilstein on the 02. Bilstein shocks are good but they are bit too soft for my liking in the heavier 19 that only has a few inches of wheel travel up front before you are engaging the bump stops. While I went with Fox, I have no intention of rebuilding them when the time comes, I will just replace them with a new set.
Sizing for a 2020 F350 CCLB 4x4 with 12400 GVWR and Snow plow prep (heavy duty front end) for a Platinum stock truck with 20” wheels - I have been checking the various sites and I am not yet seeing what part # for either Fox/BDS, Rancho 9000XL or Bilstein 5100 shocks. Any one change out their 2020 shocks yet and if so what part numbers/build did you go with?
Had a 2005 Silverado 3500 Duramax CCLB 4x4 and installed Bilstein 4600 shocks - till they rusted out, then replaced with Rancho 9000XLs that I really liked (for towing a 14K lb 40’ 5th wheel. Also worked well unloaded - could definitely tell the difference between 1 and 9 and 5 settings. Never used 2,3,4, 6,7,8 settings
Well, after much thought I decided to go with the B6 4600 Heavy Duty Bilsteins.
Being installed tomorrow. Will take some pics and post afterwards...only found two new shock mounting bolts at a total of 5 local dealers so will use those two to replace the two rears.
Thanks for all the inputs. Will see how this works long term and will come back and update you guys on how they drive as well.
Regards,
MB
Here are pics of the shocks and the new hitch after install today....
I can already tell the B6 4600 shocks are "Softer" than the OEM Rancho's, which is easier on my old **** for daily type driving, but will have to report to you on how they handle towing when I hook up sometime in the future. As for the moment - I am pleased.
