Just got my 7.3 '02 with 248k miles, working my way through all the maintenance work. Realized the radiator says do not use OAT(yellow) coolant but a golden/yellowish coolant possibly HOAT is in it.
Any one seen these with the wrong coolant before and if so what should I look out for when it comes to parts going bad?
Is it a good idea for me to be changing it back to IAT (green)?
02 is filled OE with Ford gold coolant. Zerex Gold G-05 is what I use in my 02. The Mercedes gold is also fine if you have that.
You can use green, but the gold lasts longer and does not precipitate silicates that wear out water pumps near as bad as green. With green you should run a coolant filter.
Or just flush it and use ELC as Herr ford390gashog advised. Flush doesn't have to be OCD levels, gold and ELC mix just fine.

Okay took me a little while but I believe I understand. Its just weird that the label on my radiator has a cross on yellow/orange colored coolant. But if the engine manufacturer claims ELC is best then I can't argue. Will be doing the switch to ELC, thanks guys!

COLOR is not the most accurate way to ID coolant type.
Like stated above, ZO5 (goldish) was likely the factory coolant.
That is not a factory label - at least not one I’ve seen....
The best coolant for your truck is ELC (OAT) like CAT EL1, Rotella ELC, etc.
But, you’ll need to do a proper cooling system flush that includes removing the block drains and ‘flushing’ until they run clear.
