We have two trucks, a 2002 F350 7.3 and a 2007 F550. I was told that I should go buy the coolant system protectant and put it in. I bought a bottle of FLEETGAURD DCA4. I really does not tell you what to do on the bottle. I need help. How much, where, when.
your 2007 does not need it it has the gold coolant in it from the factory. the 2002 may also have gold coolant in it (i think 02 was when they started putting it in) just check the color of the coolant if its green and 1 bottle of that stuff to the degas bottle every 15,000 miles. you may have to take like a turkey baster and remove some coolant so it will fit. if the coolant is gold/yellow then dont worry about it
well you have to check the sca level because you can add too much. you can buy the coolant test strips from www.dieselmanor.com i wouldnt just throw the whole bottle in yet before you test it. your level might be good and then after you add the bottle it might be too high
You don't need to worry about the F-550 (how do you like it BTW? I love mine.)
If you really want to do something long lasting for the '02 flush it out very thoroughly and put in Shell Rotella ELC coolant. It's red colored and will last for 300,000 miles without any maintainance. After 300,000 miles you can pour in an additive package that will enable the ELC to go another 300,000 miles.

Well, Ford's OFFICIAL stance is that you use whatever coolant came with it from the factory. If it was green out the door, then it needs to stay green with the periodic testing for SCA levels and adding as needed.
That said, there's a lot of people online here and over at the other board that have run the Rotella ELC in thier early diesels with no problems. Just make sure that you very thoroughly flush out the old stuff. There can be no trace of the old coolant to contaminate the new stuff. That's where the problems start.
