I used a two part epoxy in a dual syringe applicator. You don't need a high strength epoxy. I didn't want my **** on my T-19 coming off in my hand. Some use glues with less strength for easier **** removal. I wanted mine to be somewhat permanently glued on.
The factory used something that looks like melted plastic. I don't know if it's really a melted plastic like GM used to hold their u-joints in, or if it's a very stiff hot melt glue. I had to the take the shifter **** off my bronco II and the manual said use a heat gun to get it off. It came off but like you are experiencing, it kept coming off afterward. I had some PVC pipe glue sitting handy and put some of that on the **** and it seems to have worked. Probably any sort of glue would work.
I was thinking JB weld would be a good permanent fix. Never thought of PVC glue. I have both. If one doesn't work i'll try the other.
JB weld will be a permanent repair. The strength is 5000 psi. If you glue all the way around it's never coming off. I used a lower strength epoxy and was spare in applying it. Just a couple dabs will do. Any two part epoxy with a strength of no more than 2000 psi will be adequate. If your **** is wiggly loose you might want to use a bit more to take up any slop. Mine fit tight so just a dab was needed.
