Helpful Tips For Understanding Shop Manuals and Wiring Diagrams

This may come in handy for some of us as we look at wiring diagrams. Wire colors are always indicated as Main Color/Tracer Color. For example, BK/PK is a black wire with pink tracer.

Leonard, I have been thinking about creating a thread on lessons learned or tips and tricks for the Ford Service Manual program, but was not sure how it would be received. I am grateful you have done this because when some of us post a wiring diagram, the readers may not be fully aware of what some of the codes and identifiers mean.

My contributions to your thread are below...

Sous,
Can these be added to the tech folder somewhere? I know I found this informative.

Absolutely and good idea sir! Let's see how this thread develops and who else might be able to contribute and we will add it to the 7.3L PSD Tech Folder once it has materialized more.

EDIT: This thread is now in the Tech Folder under "Misc Information & Modifications".

My comments for additional tips and tricks are indicated by a color filled arrow with a note next to it.

I have a question on location index section. I know I'm gettin old but I can't figure it out and I'm sure when you tell me I'm gonna say ''DOH !!''

The two I'm unfamiliar with is I/P and T/O
I'm thinking I/P is instrument panel, Haven't figured out T/O yet

Coincidentally, I asked @Stufly63 this very same question earlier today based on this post he made today after fixing his VERY elusive speed control issue.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post19266131

I asked Mr. Stufly63 the following via PM...

His response was this via a PM...

I hope he does not mind me sharing a PM conversation with the world, but seeing as it is a question related to steps to take in Forscan in order to read the GEM DTC's, I don't think he will. With all of that said, I would love for someone to post up a step by step procedure (screenshots and arrows are good too) on how to read the GEM DTC's/PID's for future reference on the FTE.

This was the first I had heard of this and FordTruckNoob had to help me to even find the GEM DTC's in the Ford Service Manual because I could not find them. I have since included them in the 7.3L PSD Tech Folder and linked them here as well.
