Hey all, I heard that Caterpillar manufactured the '94 to '02 engines but at the last year Ford manufactured the '03. Is this true, if so are there any defects or downside found on the '03 engine that aren't on the older ones?
Navistar manufactured EVERY 6.9L/7.3L/6.0L/6.4L diesel engine that Ford used. Catapillar manufactured exactly zero of those. Ford also manufactured exactly zero.
Ford manufactures the 6.7L diesel currently in production.

C'mon Mark, how is anybody supposed to navigate all your grey areas and intangibles?
OP; you looking at a 2003 with 7.3 to buy? Tell us more so we can provide useful input.

lol, man gotta have some tough skin around here, I like it!
You're right I'm looking at a 02 and a 03 F350 diesel. One has no cab but the other does and it's beaten to hell and back. About to go out in a hour or two to go buy the 02, it has 248k miles with no bed for 2750. The frame is rust free but has a oil leak, no christmas lights and some cab rust by the rockers.
First time buying a diesel or truck so appreciate any input I could get it.
Saw the truck and haven't bought it yet, scheduled to go get it tonight. Looking for some advice though because I found something that's throwing me off.
I put in the VIN to my insurance company and it says the truck is short bed... but the frame is long bed and had a long bed on it. Does this sound like trouble to you guys or would you still get it if the frame was intact?
Many years ago I almost bought a motorcycle until I realized the VIN on the frame didn't match what was on the title. I removed the motorcycle from my trailer and drove away after telling them thanks for your time.
Did they show you the title? Does the VIN match the truck? Did the truck have a valid license plate and registration sticker on it?
You have to be very careful buying a vehicle with mismatched VIN...
