Speed Control Servo rebuildable?
My 93 is on its 3rd servo.
I'm not sure if the motors failed or the electronics.
Does anyone know for certain if the similar looking 2000-2003 Taurus servo will work on these trucks after swapping out the cable?
Also, with my growing collection of dead servos, is it realistic to rebuild the servos I have?
Tips?
Thanks
Thanks for responses.
I now think I will try to acquire as many of the speed servos as I can from different model vehicles because it seems there is no way to feasibly repair one and I am not savy enough to tell if it is the motor or the circuit board that is the problem on these. If I save the dead ones with notes attached I may find someone capable to fix in the future.
On my 93, which I am the original purchaser, the cruise would mysteriously turn it self off after about an hours usage and would not reactivate for some period of time on the same trip. After an undetermined amount of time had passed it would suddenly start working again. Was it overheating? I have no idea,
Eventually, it just quite working in approximately year 2000.
I purchased a used servo out of a 95 in the wrecking yard with undetermined miles to install on the 93. It work as it should initially.
In about 2011, I started getting a very elusive 452 DTC - very sporadically (once a month the trans went into limp mode because of loss of VSS/PSOM signal.) I spent years doing a trial and error method of trying to find that problem by disconnecting potential offenders and even replaced the red brake switch and then discovered that it did not happen when the speed servo had been unplugged. Installed another used speed servo and the problem has not returned.
As a side note, and as strange as it may seem, I replaced the red brake switch that had the recall fuse pigtail assembly, which by all obvious observations, had not yet failed, with the new black switch and adapter harness and it made the transmission shift soooo much nicer and actually seems to shift more responsively.
Even though this switch replacement did not fix the 452 DTC, I was glad I did it anyways.
I would suggest anybody that still has the red switch to just replace it with the new black switch while they are still available from Ford.
