I've used those kits twice on E-Series vans where the lower shock mount bolt twists off leaving no threads to reattached the shock. They work well, drilling through the OEM welded-in stud is the tough part.
Use Loctite #242 (blue) to keep in all in place---not that any of mine have ever worked themselves loose.
What did you use as a spacer so the shock doesn't rub the radius arm?
the Dorman kit should provide the needed space to prevent the lower shock mount from rubbing against the radius arm. Look for Dorman p/n 31001, typically less than $10 locally. NAPA, AdvanceAuto, AutoZone etc etc.
Good timing on this tread---my own self-installed Dorman kit on the driver's side has come loose--have to replace this one ASAP. Shock is sorta caught in the radius arm so works as designed but NOT to my liking. Next time out I'll use Loctite #271 (red) to make sure this doesn't happen again.
I found this video for Ford Vans but the shock stud looks the same as the one on my Ranger. Wish I had that much room to work on mine. If you get bored of the guy talking you can skip to 2:35.

TJC Didn't use the Dorman kit that's why I was asking about a spacer. Should I be calling it something else?
When you removed the old shock stud did you just cut off the bolt part or did you grind off the round spacer part also?
Is the Red Loctite the stuff you have to use heat to remove? I'm thinking about using lock nuts.

The nut holding the shock to the E-Series radius arm snapped off while installing new shocks. The proper size hole for the Dorman replacement part was drilled, the new part installed.

Loctite #271 is used in place of lock washers or lock nuts---its just one way to go. Because I used the Dorman part I didn't have to do anything other than install it---everything needed is included.

Yeah I may have jinxed myself but usually following good practices assures a trouble-free installation and service life.
