Over the past few days I’ve noticed when I start my truck I get the “trailer connected” or “trailer disconnected” screen on my display.
funny thing is I don’t have a trailer connected.
Seems to be very common, coming from corrosion on the connection to the trailer plug back at the bumper. A lot of guys on the sight have been recommending to pull all those connections and apart and put dielectric grease in them, if you are already getting the messages you may have significant corrsion that you will need to try and get cleaned out. If still under warranty, you should be able to get the dealer to replace it. There are a lot of connectors back there next to and above the spare tire, seems like you need to pull all of them apart and put the grease in them. I haven't dropped the spare yet, but have done all the rest, didn't take more than half an hour, pretty easy to do.

I put the grease in all them fittings about 2 months ago.
Which connector is specifically for the trailer that way I can zero in on it and see if it is corrosion?

This is actually the 7pin and camera connector that came with the six camera for trailer.
my original 7/4 pin connector was corroded and started throwing the random trailer connected and disconnected codes so I replaced the 7/4 pin one with the camera one to get the codes to stop. I exchanged the corroded 7/4 pin connector at the dealer for a new one. Now, I put the normal 7/4 pin connector back in and took this one out because it was not working anymore when I connect to a trailer. I’ll try cleaning it to see if I can get it working again.
Reach behind your bumper and you can un-clip the wire harness connection. You can then push each side in to release the retaining clips and pull it out from the bumper. Clean it good and reinstall. Hopefully you don’t have to replace the piece like I had to. Junk.

I just went out to add dielectric grease because I didn’t have any on hand when my connector stopped working. Here’s a better pic. I released the clips first, pulled it through and then released the wiring connector. It’s hard to get the wire connector clipped back together but you’ll get it.
As stated above, go into trailer settings and select "No Trailer Connected". When you connect a trailer, the truck will sense it and it will operate properly. I programmed my two trailers, one 16 ft cargo and one 10 ft flatbed, so it is all good to go when I hook up either one. I don't know how the truck knows which trailer I have connected but it does. You can program how long it is and more. It's pretty impressive.

My truck senses the trailer but asks which one to use. My F150 had the Pro Trailer Backup system, it was actually pretty cool and worked surprisingly well. The 350,has a system if you have the 360 cameras but not nearly as good.

Creature features are for the boys that want to look cool. Real men know how to back up a trailer.
