F1 steering column help
John
That's quite the situation you have. Is your truck a floor shift or column shift? (a 50 could be either) Either way, I would think you can get by with just pulling the outer tube off the steering shaft with the gearbox intact, IF the tube doesn't hit the roof of the truck before clearing the shaft. I think there's room to do that.
If it's a column shift, you'll need to pull all the shifter parts off the column first.
If it is floor shift, just loosen the clamp at the bottom of the tube, next to the gearbox, and remove the clamp on the bottom of the dash. It would probably help to remove the plates where the tube penetrates the firewall/floor too, but keep track of how they install. Then the tube should just slide off.
I don't see how the upper bearing cup could get down in the tube, so it must be the bearing or spacer that's down there. I kind of doubt any of those parts are available, so check the Parts For Sale thread for a used column, or someone who will sell those parts. Good luck!
