Does your mechanic not know how to use a DVM? It's not that difficult to measure amp draw at the fuse box, which will allow you to isolate which circuit has the excessive draw and then track it down from there. If there's no draw he can then use the DVM to measure voltage drop during cranking to see if it's a bad ground or bad cable.
1st fully charge the battery and perform a load test; second if all is ok, connect a multimeter to the ground terminal in parallel mode...if you have a drain, you will see a voltage reading...more than .05..... begin by removing either the relays and/or fuses one at a time looking for the voltage to drop...when it does, you found the circuit with the problem.....this can be caused not only by a "device' but a bad relay as well.
You getting battery drain at startup? If it is the glow plugs will quickly drain low batteries.
And it takes more then one hour to fully charge the batteries, try over night.

Yes it's draining at startup. The go plugs run their cycle and the battery gauge indicates a full charge. The batteries charge very quickly they're brand new. Even the old batteries charged quickly but I replaced them to eliminate them as a possibility.
Even after the glow plug wait to start light goes out the glow plugs are still on especially in a cold climate. If you have the single alternator it cannot over come the amp draw of the glow plugs. Put a DVM on your batteries at startup and watch the voltage drop each time the glow plugs cycle on.
