Recently my truck has become harder to steer. Once you turn, you have to turn the opposite direction to straighten the wheels. It struggles to straighten itself back out. This happens whether I turn right or left
You can hear the pump and steering gearbox working harder than usual. The fluid is full. I greased all the fittings I could. Any suggestions on what to check?
Thanks for the ideas. I haven't hit anything (unless my son isn't telling me something). I did pressure wash under the truck about a month ago to clean off residual road salt. That was the only thing I could think of that might correlate with when it started.
I didn't think about the U-Joints because the hubs weren't engaged. I'll put it on jack stands and see what I can figure out. I did the drivers side ball joints last year. There was no play in that U-Joint and it moved freely. I need to do some homework on the passenger side because I'm not sure how to pull the axle with the double U-Joints in there.
It is a two piece shaft. To do the inner joint you can try to do it in the truck. If that doesn’t work, you will need to remove the differential since the inner shaft is retained by a C clip.
Well.. I took the passenger front tire off and tried to lock the hub. The rotor turns but the axle doesn't. Looking like those U-Joints might be seized and/or I may need a new locking hub.
