My 1993 F150 4x4 with power steering has developed a weird steering problem. After it warms up, when I go around a turn, the wheel does not go back to straight unless I 'force' it to go, and sometimes the wheel feels like it is being pushed one way and then the other. Occasionaly while going straight, all of a sudden it will feel like it dives to one side, then back the other way, and oscillates like this 5 or 6 times. If I turn the wheel to the left or right, it stops.
I put the truck up on jack stands on the frame, and checked the ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link etc, and nothing seems to be loose, floppy or clunking. Is it possible that there is a problem with the steering box/steering pump?
As a note, the power steering fluid looked kind of dark and cooked. I changed the fluid and the problem improved slightly.
If it improved after changing the fliud I would guess it could be the pump causing the issue. Just a guess though. Since knowone else has replied. Maybe check the lines and make sure none of the steel lines are pinched or smashed.
