1994 F350, 5.8. Truck has the FSB headlight relays as it burned out the last headlamp switch, which seems to be common on these trucks. I replaced the headlamp switch at that time with a Dorman unit.
Headlights stopped working tonight. No bright or dim. All other lights work, including tail lights. Luckily, when pulling back on the multifunction switch, the brights would come on, so I drove home with the switch pulled back.
Too late to dig into it tonight. Any suggestions? I don't think it would be a fuse or relay since the brights do come on when pulling back on the multi function switch. Headlamp switch or MF switch?
You know, I think I would look at the multi-function switch, as long as I knew the plug for the headlight switch was not cooked when I changed the switch out. It sounds like the multi-function switch decided it was done working. I guess you could meter it to see if it's bad if you had the schematic for the steering column.
Finally got a chance to use the link provided by torq'ta 5 8. I jumped B1 and H and did not have headlights. After metering B1, I found out B1 has 0.5 Volts instead of 12V. The headlight switched passed a continuity test. I also checked all the fuses, all had continuity, I did not see a headlight relay.
I haven't found a site that explains how to test the multi-function switch, yet. Do you think it probable that the MF could be bad and only allowing 0.5 volts to wire B1?
BTT, I would really appreciate any help.I have 12 volts to the fuse in the power distribution box. Also, the headlights come on when pulling back (flash mode) on the multifunction switch.
I switched out the multifunction switch and headlight switch, still no headlights. Not sure what to do. Jumping B1 and H resulted in no headlights with B1 having 0.5V instead of 12V. I used the following test as provided by Torqta'5.8.
If there is no power on the Black/Orange wire (B1) you have an open fuse (Fuse R 40A) or an open circuit between the engine compartment fuse box and the headlamp switch.
