I bought a camper shell from a salvage yard for my 2006 screw, but I can’t go get it yet, because, you know…
I’d like to ask help from people with a camper shell or know how to install one:
1. What clamps/brackets do you have or recommend to hold it on? They said they don’t have them, so I need to buy ‘em.
2. I have a bed liner, it has the plastic pieces on the top of the sides of the bed. However, the front of my bed doesn’t have any plastic piece on top.
- Question: Is it helpful to put weatherstripping on the top of the sides, too? Or just the top of the front of the bed?
Any other thoughts on adding a camper shell?
Isn’t it funny how “Camper shell” has different names in different areas?
Here are pictures of the camper shell and of my bed, where there is no liner on the front.
If it is permanent, many will drill 2-3 holes on each side and bolt to the top face.... If you have it on and off often, i have seen people use 4 small C-clamps... maybe 3 inch size to hold the shell in place... Look at the shell first, it may have foam on the bottom face, it may not... A lot depends on how often you remove and if you want it WATER TIGHT .
You can remove the plastic plugs in the top of the bed rail caps and use J bolts to hold the shell down, As for a seal along the front edge there are a number of options from self sticking foam to rubber/vinyl weather stripping fastened to the underside of the camper cap shell...Are you sure there is not already some type of weather strip/seal fastened to the underside of the camper shell, If this fits your vehicle then most likely the vehicle it came from had a weather tight seal and it would be logical it was on the underside of the front edge of the cap.
Just a thought...check to see what is currently on the cap
