So there's a hum or howl of sorts that my truck is making. I took a video and tried to filter the road noise as well as possible and I EQ'd up the frequency of the noise itself (~250-300Hz).
It's not affected by engine RPM or gear selection, so in my mind that narrows it to the transfer-case and back. It's only when load is applied, ruling out tires.
I'm about to regear + Truetrac anyway, but I'd love to know what's going on with my baby. Is it about to grenade while I'm going in to town or something? Please, give me your thoughts, and/or link me to other resources.
Video timeline:
0:00 - coasting
0:03 - light acceleration
0:07 - heavier accel., gear shift, no change in pitch or intensity
0:11 - coast
0:13 - light accel.
0:21 - coast
0:23 - light accel.
If the noise is changing on and off the throttle that is a good indication that the noise might be coming from the rear differential like maybe the bearings.
