I just recently picked up a new 19' CCSB PS. Its an XL with the STX package.
I have the little light next to the tailgate handle, but i can't figure out how it works... i had the same light on my 16' 150, and it came on with cargo light, or bed lights, or when doors were open, or with the look/unlock.
I know how its supposed to work, but it doesn't.
Any ideas? why it would be there if not hooked up?
i have searched, and all i can find is people adding the light when they don't have it.
Again, I have it, but it doesn't work.
Just wondering if I'm missing something or is just a malfunction?

I think you need Lariat- or higher trim on a 2017+ Super Duty to get the trailer hook-up lamp. Our 2017 XLT Premium did not have the lamp; our 2019 Lariat Ultimate does.
Are you sure the “light next to the tailgate handle” isn’t the lens for the back-up camera?
Here’s a picture of our truck’s tailgate. The black bump above the middle of the handle is the backup camera. The white light to the right side of the handle is the trailer hookup lamp:
If you’ve got the lamp feature and it’s not working, then check the tailgate harness connectors under the truck bed.

i do have the 360 camera package. i can't honestly say i tried to turn it on with that button, i had just assumed (yes i know) that it worked the same as my previous truck.
Thanks to all who replied, you all have shed some light on this for me. I will have to try the button and see if that works.
I did open the tailgate up (access panel) and there is a component there and it is hooked up, at least in the tailgate.
My STX has the light because, like mentioned above, I have the 360 camera package. My light comes on whenever I open the doors or unlock the truck. Seems like you have a malfunction.
Does anyone know the part # for the harness that supplies power to the hitch light? I have the rear camera, and am adding the light. The Ford parts breakdown is very vague with there harness descriptions. My truck originally had the light, but my current tailgate only has the camera. Thanks for any help.
