Has anyone tested their oil in their 6.7 multiple times based on mileage differences between changes?
I am a little surprised Ford recommends only 5,000 miles between changes. I am going to go off of the monitor recommendations but only have 3100 miles so far and did an early change initially around 1600 or so (seeing its a $10.5k upgrade, why not on break in...).
Having run lots of Amsoil over the years, and done extended intervals, the idea of 5,000 miles changes seems premature. The 6.7 is a whole other animal , so I am looking for some data if anyone has some?
I do the 5,000 dont care what the little computer says. They want you to go by that stupid thing not me. I do the extreme change interval need to read that part cause most anybody is going to fall under it. I think that would come into play on a warranty issue.
Use ALS labs cheaper and faster than Blackstone plus they give you the TBN at no extra cost. Plus the kits are 15.00 at NAPA and 7.50 during the filter sale.
Thank you for all the feedback. I will try out ALS labs. If the ford motorcraft synth blend is still well within performance at 5k miles, I will start going up in 1k mile increments to see how it does to find the sweet spot . If the economics are worth it I may switch to higher mileage interval oil. The tough part is that I keep pretty busy so paying someone to put in Amsoil
or similar may not be worth it. That and I need to verify the oil I would be using outside of the Ford stuff has the new standard additive requirements listed as I saw in another thread while doing my research.
We’ll see what happens and I will post results and update the thread over time. That or start a new thread to track oil performance.
