After my second repaint in 2016, I tried to put WS on one door. I cut the WS at the bottom and was prepared to put it on with the door in place. I sat on a 5 gallon bucket looking at the job before me. Then I deduced that I couldn't do it without getting adhesive all over the place and getting the WS crooked. So I took my doors off, laid them on saw horses on a blanket and installed the WS that way.
There are some good ideas above but for me I'd take off the doors.
About the new solid WS.... I am convinced that the rubber used is not of the same quality as the original solid WS and so the hollow is best today.
WELL, I went ahead and ripped out the original solid weatherstripping and installed the hollow stuff . Left the doors on and used black weatherstrip glue for top, latch side and bottom... The hinge side was the funnest. Used 3M Heavy duty trim and emblem double stick tape and it was 'difficult" at best... but got everything stuck up good. Door now closes nicely with no gap at bottom, still need to tweek the latch a little for easier solenoid release.
here's looking from drivers seat down to door bottom at the back of the drivers door...no daylight anywhere else and quite a bit quieter.
