Hey guys I'm hooking up my old sunpro II tach and was wondering if anyone knew what wire on the back of the headlight switch I need to splice into In order for the tach light to come on when I turn on the headlights/dash lights. The rest of the wiring is done. Just thought I'd ask before I started removing the headlight switch. Or is there another wire else where I could use?
Thanks Joe.
My best guess without knowing the year or model is your looking for a lightblue/red stripe wire. Ford used that color for many years in the 70's, 80's and 90's. And easier place to get power would be the instrument light fuse using a fuse tap. If you use the proper wire or fuse, it will dim and brighten with the dimmer control.
Lightblue with a red stripe it is for that model. You should have a little fuse in the fuse box just for the instrument lights if you wanted to tap off that. If you have a testlight, you can turn the headlights on, and then probe this fuse while you turn the headlight **** around, you should see the testlight get dimmer and brighter with the dash lights.
Or you can tap off any lightblue/red wire under the dash. Accessing the headlight switch is a little bit of a pain. This wire can also be found over behind the radio for the radio dial, and behind the HVAC controls for their dial lights.
