Sorry for yet another upfitter switch question, however I did not see anything related to my question.
My question is how to run wiring for the upfitter switch to the inside the cab. What would be the easiest, extend the wire back through the fire wall then run to desired location?
Or has anyone just tapped in to the upfitter switch wiring at the switch itself? Seems like it would be easier to run the wire.
Also if I tag in to the wiring at the switch would moving the 5 amp fuse from keyed to all ways hot still work? Do not know why it would not, just thought I would ask people that have more electrical knowledge than I do.
You need to find the pass thru wires under the passenger side kick panel. They come out under the hood on the passenger side. Then run a wire from the upfitter wires on the driver side under the hood to a pass thru wire. Once you do that connect what your new wire to the pass thru in the passenger kick panel. Find a grounding location in the cab for the negative side and you are done. Do a search there is loads of info on this.
Unless your planned load is fairly low current, then I’d recommend against tapping directly into a switch. The upfitter switches are designed to control the high load current relays located in the engine bay.

Thanks for the info, sounds like it is pretty straight forward. Will look for the pass through wires tomorrow and connect what I need to selected upfitter switch.

The pass thru wires on the 19's are on the driver's side along with the upfitter relays. The 20's changed to the passenger side and the pass thru wires are useless.
Thank you very much... I needed that - I have the one for my 2015 (Q157-R3) with four switches but not this one for my 2019!!!

Thank you as well - wouldn't have known about the "blunt cut wires" having been moved to the passenger side! Invaluable info! From what I understand, inside the cab is quite different as well - there's some kind of circuit board with a jumper plug you remove that has all the wires on it that you wire into, then just plug it back in again? (2019)

So passenger side for 2018, drivers side for 2019 and then back to passenger side for 2020?!? Is the assembly line guy in charge of stuffing wires through the firewall drunk?
On a 19 the blunt cut pass thru wires on the PASSENGER side, the upfitter switch wires are on the drivers side under the relay box.the pass thru wires can be a little tricky to find,I had to feel around to find mine,as they were zip tied to a wire harness.
