My truck started to get harder and harder to start after sitting for a few days. When it would finally start, it would puff white smoke. I check the GPR and replaced the glow plugs and uvch with motorcraft parts. That did not fix it.
This problem got progressively worse. It has 235k mi on it. My thought was that injectors were headed south. So to verify, i took it to a local shop to have them diagnose. They said that the starter was bad and the pcm was interfering with the charging system. I bought a starter and took it to them for install.
The new starter spun much faster so I accept the old one was going bad. The pcm problem baffled me a little. After putting the starter on the mechanic said it did look like the injectors were going bad too. He wanted $800-$1300 to replace them if i brought him the injectors so i decided to do them myself.
I ordered Swamps stage 1 and got them installed. Installation went fine. Everything happened as instructions said it would. Drove the truck for a few days and it felt like it was taking longer than it should to start but I attributed it to air in the lines.
The truck sat for 2 days and I went to start this morning, 60 degrees, and it would not start. Killed the batteries trying to start it for a few minutes. I plugged in a cheap OBD scanner and it wont even come on. This has got my mind going back to the PCM but all the dash and gauges are acting as they should when you try start it.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
