....the wrong batteries? Mine are 850ca 700cca. I replaced them with what was in there previously, but it's been hard to start since we started getting cold fronts a week ago (+/- 50* in the mornings). The batteries were checked a few days ago, but in my first attempt to start this morning, it turned over maybe once and then nothing. I waited a few minutes and got it started, but it's not cranking very hard. Should I have more cca?
yes, around 800-900 cca, than it might be your starter. 50* should not make big diference on starting the truck. anyways , have the batts load tested each one separate, and if they are ok, might be starter going bad, mine did the same thing, replaced bats and was the same story.
Okay, I'm going to replace the batteries today after work. If it still doesn't start very well in the morning, do I go straight to the starter? I've already checked connections and replaced gp's and gpr.
i would, if it turns slow after bats were replaced. there is a guy on Flebay that sels High TQ starters for 130$ .worth the money IMO. clickherefor the auction
I had a 96 with bad glowplugs and I hurt my starter cranking it all the time in the cold months. I mean it would still turn over and start it but it took too long the starter was turning too slow put in new bats. no change installed new starter bingo back to good starts . I would check your bats. first 2 new bats. cost about the same as a new starter.
Thanks Pete. I'm gonna head down and get a couple Duralast Golds. 8yr warranty and 850cca. That should be 300cca more than I have now. If that don't work, I'll order one of them there high tq starters.
cool keep us posted, i have one of those starters and love it. they have 2 year warranty, and the guy always answered my emails and phone , so its a safe place to get it,
I put the new batteries in right after my last post. It sure did help. I may go ahead and replace the starter soon anyway. When I replace the starter, is there any reason to replace the starter solenoid relay at the same time?
