a bad day
so i have been working on a 1988 ford 7.3. got the smoking/miss problem fixed and the truck running like a champ. so i took it out for its first test drive. a radiator hose turned out to be bad and blew off causing a overheating event. i limped the truck home but it got hot maybe a mile or two. i fixed the problem today but when the truck warmed up the white smoke and dead miss has returned. the truck probably needs new injectors before this happened and the smoke isn't to bad it was worse before i replaced the cdr. i did notice blow by on the cdr before i replaced it. so im assuming the valves are trashed. whats this damage going to cost me.

I wouldn't worry about valves too much, generally a badly overheated engine results in either a blown head gasket, cracked heads, or both. The white smoke could be coolant getting into the combustion chambers from what I mentioned above.

seems i got lucky. i whent out today to make a video showing the smoke. the dead miss and smoking went away. seems i have a injector sticking closed at random causing white smoke vs black. but i will keep a close eye on the coolant levels. got to love these old 7.3 tough as tanks.
i started it to the normal dead miss and smoke then it just seemed to self correct and run perfect. so the injectors are defiantly the guilty party.
