Hey I live in Australia and have an 2002 powerstroke. The other day when driving it began to miss took it straight to the Ford dealership buzz test no2 not right ford want $4500 for one injector. I ended up getting one from ford in Houston landed here for $450. Upon having it fitted the truck started smoking bad at idle when cold as engine heats up it goes away to an intermitent smoke here and there. Contribution test shows problem on no2 it is also getting an error code on the cps. I had them remove the injector and replace seals same thing. I belive the engine has been dusted but turbo vanes look good and it did not blow smoke before the injector went no 2 cly is down 70 lbs compared to 4,6,8. I am waiting on a warrany for the CPS they are $592.00 not bad hey .
My question is has anyone ever got a bad remanufactured injector?
As it never smoked before the injector went and that is the only thing that has been touched I am leaning towards it being a dud. Any thoughts appriciated
Geoff
Do you have any idea what was wrong with the original injector that was removed?
Is it possible that it took our the cylinder before it was replaced?
I don't know what the spec is for difference in compression between cylinders is, but 70lbs is a lot.
They told me it was an electrical problem with the injector so I was thinking of refitting the old one and putting the top off the new one on it. It did not blow any smoke when I arrived at the dealership if the rings were gone I would imagine that it would have been smoking. I have removed the filler cap when it is hot there is a steady stream of smoke not as thick as the one shown on u tube. When it smokes at idle when cold it is a definate puff puff puff out the exahust, I have checked the oil filler when cold as well, steady stream but less smoke than when hot.
Welcome to FTE. If it were me, I'd swap the #2 & #4 injector and see if the problems follow the injector or stay with the #2 cylinder. That should tell you if you should be chasing the injector, or a wiring or cylinder issue.
I am going with F350-6 on this and my bet is if they told you electrical its a wiring issue. There are so many techs out there that will just throw parts at trucks its sad, but most of the time you can figure out the issue if you just look through the B.S.
If so, I feel honored I have made some sort of contribution to the PSD community.
And yes it does sound fishy about your injector, but I'm no expert, maybe someone here can get you one. Remans can where beyond the point of rebuild. Just do some reading at diy-injectors.com (credit to whoever posted that in another thread) I can pick up a brand new Alliant Power (OEM, somehow attached to CAT as I understand. Ford and IH just rebrand) injector for $260 any day of the week with exchange of the old one. No remans, these are from a local injection and turbo shop (actually a branch shop that is located locally) M&D Injection. Maybe you could work something with them or a forum member that is stateside and have parts shipped to you instead of paying those outrageous prices.
Just a thought.
